The turn of the year is a time for reflection. A time to look back on what has been achieved, but also to look forward to what is to come. And it is a time to celebrate both. In English, the time we are in has a resonant name for which there is no German equivalent: the "festive season". It doesn't just mean the Christmas holidays or New Year's Eve, but the time of year from November to January, when we hope to feel wonderfully festive.
In our last issue of 2024, we make a detailed and hopefully convincing plea for the importance of enjoying and celebrating life. "How can those who never live in excess find moderation in everyday life?" writes the renowned literary critic and passionate bon vivant Denis Scheck in the essay he contributed. We can only agree with him. And so we devote ourselves to the best sparkling wines and roast the finest poultry.
Romana Echensperger - author, sommelier and Master of Wine - celebrates her Falstaff debut. Together with Ulrich Sautter, she takes over as editor-in-chief of Falstaff Germany with immediate effect. We are proud of so much concentrated wine expertise. In the current magazine, you can find out from Sautter and Echensperger, among other things, how to bring mature red wines to the table perfectly prepared - and what actually makes a successful celebration. This much can be revealed: Not everything has to be perfect! How comforting!
In the wine section, we also explore the best sweet wines, while the gourmet section is all about the best bread and the crux of gluten. Finally, we travel with you not only through the most beautiful winter regions of Austria - but also towards the warmth: to the Canary Islands.
